Subway to the Sea Coalition

Welcome to the Subway to the Sea, the official website of the Subway to the Sea Coalition.

The Subway to the Sea Coalition's mission is to bring together environmental, business, labor and community organizations and leaders to champion a vital element of Los Angeles County’s transportation agenda: the Wilshire Corridor subway - the Subway to the Sea.

We will champion the Subway to the Sea as an essential strategic system which, together with other systems being planned or built, will help Los Angeles County take a giant step forward in ensuring the mobility, economic development and environmental quality our communities need and deserve.

From the current terminus of the Red Line at Wilshire Blvd. and Western Ave., heading west along Wilshire Blvd to Beverly Hills, Century City, Westwood and UCLA and on to the Pacific Ocean in Santa Monica, the Wilshire corridor subway will form the essential high capacity trunk line our public transit system needs, interconnecting with a vastly improved transit bus system and an expanding network of light rail lines.

The Subway to the Sea will provide essential new capacity on our most congested east/west corridor and enhance the utilization and efficiency of our existing transit systems to provide all of the communities of Los Angeles County with safe, efficient, reliable and affordable transit access to most of the major employment, educational, commercial and cultural destinations of the Southland.
